Vertical 99

NNeng [Brian Moran, Benton Bainbridge and Nancy Meli Walker] performs video and audio live at festivals, music and art venues in an amalgamation of oscillations, geometrics and organics, an ultra-abstrated mindstate at 60 cycles per second.

When NNeng returned to ETC for our second residency, we couldn't resist the call of the oscillators. "Vertical 99" was one of our realtime audiovisual performances on the Jones Colorizer, much like the process behind the original, 1998, Vertical Hi-Way sessions. In this residency we allowed ourselves the freedom to build up pieces by laying down a/v synth 'parts' to tape, then layering them in realtime mixes. The two takes of "Wiggling Shrimp" show that NNeng still brought a performative touch to this process, getting quite different results from the two passes.
